Call to Action

At that time the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” 2And calling to him a child, he put him in the midst of them 3and said Truly, I say to you, unless you turn and become like children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4Whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me,6but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. (Matthew 18:1-6)
Don’t you just love the disciples!
We are in Matthew 18 and if you just turn the page to the left, to chapter 17 Jesus has told the disciples that he (Jesus) is going to Jerusalem to be delivered into the hands of men to be crucified, killed, tortured…(You get the point…)  The scriptural record tell us, “The disciples were greatly distressed.”
And then we turn the page only to discover the disciples, on their way with Jesus to said destination of torture and crucifixion, saying to Jesus, “Oh, by the way, hey Jesus, who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?”  The disciples might have been carrying a few mirrors around on this occasion for a quick reference and answer.  Jesus answers beautifully…
The “Childlike” inherit the kingdom of heaven.
The “Childish” ask ridiculous, self-serving questions like you just did.  Quit being “childish”, Jesus says to the disciples, all the while showing them, it is the “Childlike” who gain the favor and eye of the Lord.
As our Call to Action this week – Let’s make sure we know the distinction between the two:
Being Childlike is NOT being Childish.
