Contemplative Prayer

The Centering/Contemplative Prayer Group
at Mountain View Presbyterian Church meets every Friday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel. Each session lasts about 45 minutes.

Centering/Contemplative Prayer is the ecumenical, contemporary prayer practice aimed, as in Medieval times, to bring Christians closer to God and to develop a relationship with God. The practice includes periods of silence during which we open our minds and hearts to the Presence of God. Up until about 40 years ago, Contemplative Prayer was practiced only in monasteries.   Centering Prayer is an effort to renew the teaching of the Christian tradition on Contemplative Prayer and to present that tradition in an up-to-date form and put a certain order and method into it. The practice of Centering Prayer is the way to prepare us to enter into Contemplative Prayer, and this practice has now spread to just about every large and medium-size city in the U.S. and every country in the world.
