It’s Thursday and you know what that means - I have “Thoughts!”

One parishioner at MVPC asked me a couple of Sundays ago, “Do you only have ‘Thoughts’ on Thursday? Do you not think the rest of the week?” This made me laugh out loud!

I have lots of thoughts and I am always a little bit curious come each Thursday what thoughts might be shared with the rest of humanity!!

Today, I am thinking about Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer.

Rudolph is on my mind because I am preaching about him this Sunday.

Our Advent Sermon series is focusing on the “Sacred Songs of Christmas!”

What songs might those be which are considered “sacred?”

Here’s what I am preaching on over the next twenty-five days:

"Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer” - December 3rd

"Frosty the Snowman” - December 10th

"Welcome Christmas" - the song sung around the Christmas tree at the end of The Grinch Who Stole Christmas. - December 17th

"Christmas Time is Here" from the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Think of the Peanuts gang ice skating on the frozen pond with Snoopy.  - December 24th (10:00 am)

"When Christmas Comes to Town" from The Polar Express will round out this sermon series on Christmas Eve. - December 24th (4:00, 6:00 and 10:00 pm)

One of my goals and joys in life is to look for and discover Jesus and God in everything I encounter. I even wrote a book on that very subject - “Seeing God at Work - The Forty-Day Challenge” (available on Amazon - makes for a great Christmas gift!)

The question arises, “Can we discover Jesus, God, Christianity and spiritual inspiration from these “secular” songs sung and played throughout the Christmas season?

Well, let’s find out together, shall we?

This is the hope and the joy of anticipation I love about the Advent Season.
I never know what’s right around the corner and how God is going to show up in some new or even old way and allow my heart and soul to be moved and lifted up.

Have a blessed Thursday and let’s begin the Advent Season with expecting the unexpected!

Laugh often and Fear not!
David!
